How do you see yourself?
Living with low self-esteem can feel like a daily battle. Thoughts like “I am worthless,” “I never get it right,” “I always screw up,” playing on a loop can make it difficult to try new things, put ourselves out there, or even complete daily tasks. Looking in the mirror and not liking what you see can make you want to change your appearance or just disappear. The way we see ourselves shapes our motivation, our confidence, and our mood each day.
So what can I do about it?
At Jasper Therapy Group, we can help you change how you see yourself. The goal isn’t to change who you are - it’s to get you to look at yourself with kinder eyes. We use an approach that addresses the current symptom (the negative self-talk) and explores where these beliefs came from.
For some people, this looks like exploring childhood experiences or incidents in the past. This also looks like challenging the self-talk, either by saying something positive or practicing “talking back” to that voice in your head. We take things slow and go at your pace - we understand that not everyone can go from thinking they’re the worst to the best in one day (although we wish it were that easy). With most clients, we start with “shifting to neutral,” instead of trying to reach 100% positivity on day one.
